The unique salt-mine is located 13 km from Kraków. Its history dates back to the XII century. The underground tourist route is 4.5 km long and the lifts go 135 m below the ground. Museum of Salt Mine collects expansive exhibits illustrating the history of salt mining of the Podkarpacie region.
The Saint Kinga's Chapel is carved in salt and presents an exceptional beauty. Wieliczka is also rehabilitation and treatment centre. On the fifth level of the mine, there is a sanatorium chamber, where illnesses of respiratory system are cured. While visiting the town we recommend to walk around the Market Square and the castle.
